Microsoft Word - SPE 168471 CLEAN SEA Project REVCathx Ocean’s sequential imaging and laser profiling system has recently been chosen by Tecnomare for their Clean Sea programme using a Saab Sabertooth hybrid AUV/ROV for delivery in August 2016. Tecnomare, a technology division of ENI – an engineering services provider in the offshore oil and natural gas industry, developed the Clean Sea project (continuous long-term environmental and asset integrity monitoring at sea) to benefit asset integrity and environmental monitoring of oil and gas installations.

The Cathx system enables Tecnomare to capture high resolution video with sequential white & UV light imaging and 3D laser data for Clean Sea monitoring and inspection.

Cathx Ocean have engaged Pioneer Focus (HK) Ltd as their representative in the Chinese market specifically targeting Oceanographic Institutes. Cathx imaging systems were delivered to a number of Chinese Oceanographic Institutes in 2015 and 2016 for both AUV and ROV operations including the Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) and the Institute of Oceanography- Chinese Academy of Sciences. Cathx Ocean’s latest lighting product, the Aphos 32, has also been very successful in the Chinese market in 2016. The Dalian Maritime University chose this system for its ultra high 150,000 lumen output which enables high speed high altitude imaging with the benefit of low continuous power consumption from the vehicle.




Following successful sea trials in the North Sea in 2015 using the Cathx Ocean imaging system on the ‘Surveyor Interceptor ROV’, MMT ordered further Cathx systems for their high speed operations. Deepocean, who also collaborated with Kyst design in 2016 to build the high speed ‘Superior ROV’, also chose the Cathx Ocean system.
The Cathx system enables high speed ROV’s to capture very high resolution imaging at ranges of up to 5m and speeds of up to 5 knots.


Lasers are rapidly finding their way into the subsea industry due to their ability to generate high-quality inspection data. As a result, the latest developments on EIVA NaviSuite include support for Cathx’s subsea laser scanner, which offers data of impressive resolution and detail…

The Surveyor Interceptor Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) had its first commercial outing in the North Sea. The Cathx imaging system was used to capture high resolution UHD still images over 8,000 kilometres of pipelines at a range of 5m and at an average speed of 3.33 knots. The data acquired was of very high quality and available for processing and analysis continuously on the Edda Fonn support vessel.

In early 2015 Reach Subsea and MMT Sweden completed successful offshore tests on the new Surveyor Interceptor ROV and has recently completed its first commercial deployment.
Cathx Ocean were commissioned by MMT to provide a full imaging system including a dual mode laser profiler and still imaging system with synchronized lighting, lasers and pilot video camera. This system is capable of capturing UHD still images and high density 3D point cloud while travelling at speeds of 4knots at a range of 5m.
